The APSA QC Journalism Camp Year 2 opened its three-day training program on August 8. 2026 at the School of St. Anthony in Lagro, Quezon City, bringing together aspiring young campus journalists for a meaningful day of learning, inspiration, and skills development.
Mr. JM Encinas of GMA 7 led the first day's session, sharing valuable insights drawn from his experience in journalism. At the heart of his message was a reminder of the responsibility that comes with being a journalist: to stand for the truth.
Mr. Encinas emphasized that journalism goes beyond simply telling compelling stories. He reminded the young participants that being a good journalist is also about character, integrity, and responsibility. As he stressed, being a good journalist is not just about telling a good story—it is also about being a good person.
His message encouraged the participants to see journalism not only as a craft to master but also as a responsibility to serve others through truthful and ethical storytelling.
In the afternoon, participants proceeded to specialized training sessions in different campus journalism categories. Facilitated by field experts, the sessions gave students opportunities to sharpen their skills, learn effective techniques, and gain practical knowledge they can apply in their respective areas of competition.
The APSA Journalism Centrex Officers, led by President Ms. Christine Blazar, organized the three-day Journalism Camp. The initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to strengthening campus journalism and developing responsible and skilled young journalists.
One of the camp’s major goals is to prepare student journalists for the different levels of the Schools Press Conference—from the district and division competitions to the regional and national stages.
More than preparing students to compete, however, APSA QC Journalism Camp Year 2 seeks to develop young journalists who understand the deeper purpose of their craft: to seek the truth, tell stories responsibly, and use their voices with integrity.
As Day 1 came to a close, participants carried with them not only new journalism skills but also an important lesson—that behind every great story should be a journalist committed to truth and good character.
